Birth & Postpartum Doula Support
You Don’t Have to do This Alone
Doula support through Echo Wellness Collective — steady, knowledgeable, nervous-system-aware care through pregnancy, birth, and the fourth trimester, so you and your family feel held every step of the way.
Does this sound familiar?
You're excited, but also a little overwhelmed. You want to feel prepared for birth, not just informed about it. You're wondering who's going to help with the laundry, the meals, and the middle-of-the-night questions once the baby actually arrives. You want someone in your corner who isn't rushing off to the next appointment — someone who's just there, for you.
That's exactly what a doula offers: continuous, personalized support that adapts to what you and your family actually need.
What is a Doula?
A doula is a trained, non-medical support person who walks alongside you through pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postpartum period. Unlike your midwife or OB, a doula isn't there to deliver medical care — they're there to provide continuous emotional support, physical comfort measures, informed guidance, and advocacy, so you feel confident, calm, and heard throughout the entire process.
At Echo Wellness Collective, doula support fits naturally alongside the nervous-system-focused care we already provide. Birth is one of the most nervous-system-intensive experiences a body goes through — and a regulated nervous system, supported by someone calm and present, tends to labour more efficiently and recover more smoothly. Postpartum is no different: a body and nervous system that feel supported are better able to rest, heal, and bond. Doula care isn't separate from nervous system care — it's an extension of it.
Who is this for?
Doula support isn't just for first-time parents, and it isn't only for a specific kind of birth. It's for any family who wants more support than they're currently getting.
You might benefit from doula support if you’re:
Preparing for your first birth and want to feel genuinely ready, not just informed
Preparing for a second (or third, or fourth) birth and want a different, more supported experience this time
Planning a hospital, home, or birth-centre birth — doula support adapts to your setting and your choices
Anxious about labour and want steady, knowledgeable support in the room
Newly postpartum and in need of practical help — meals, rest, newborn care — so you can focus on healing and bonding
Looking for breastfeeding or feeding support alongside emotional and physical care
Birth Doula Support
Continuous emotional and physical support throughout labour and delivery — comfort measures, encouragement, and calm, informed presence from early labour through birth. Includes prenatal visits to build trust, talk through your preferences, and create a birth plan you feel good about, plus immediate postpartum support once your baby arrives.
Postpartum Doula Support
In-home support in the weeks and months after birth, available any time up to 18 months postpartum. Whatever's on your mental to-do list — newborn care, feeding support, light household help, meal prep, or simply someone to hold space while you process your birth story — postpartum support meets you where you are. Daytime and overnight availability.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
It's a structured program of exercises that retrains the muscles of the face, tongue, and throat — addressing root causes like mouth breathing, poor tongue posture, tongue thrust, and jaw tension rather than just the symptoms they cause.
-
Children as young as 4 can begin, depending on their ability to follow along with exercises. If your child is younger than that, our team can still help identify early signs of orofacial dysfunction during regular visits and let you know when the timing is right to start myofunctional therapy.
-
No — it works alongside one. Myofunctional therapy prepares the muscles before a release and supports proper healing and function afterward, which is often the difference between a release that "took" and one that didn't fully resolve.
-
Breathing and oral-motor function are closely tied to nervous system regulation. Many families come to us for chiropractic or nervous system-focused care and discover myofunctional therapy addresses a piece of the puzzle they didn't know was connected — and vice versa.
-
Myofunctional therapy is often covered through Health Spending Accounts and some extended dental plans. The CDHA and CDHO are actively working toward the inclusion of myofunctional therapy services, in a broader range of dental benefit plans, including the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).
