Lu Jimenez Peralta, Registered Psychotherapist
Like many of my clients, I spent much of my life feeling like I was “too much" and never quite belonged. It wasn’t until I learned I was AuDHD (Autistic and ADHD) in my thirties that so many pieces of my life finally made sense. But with the relief came grief - grief for the years my struggles went unrecognized, for always feeling like I needed to hold it all together, and for always feeling like I had to work twice as hard just to keep up with everyone else. The journey has profoundly impacted growth and healing, and it has fueled my passion for supporting neurodivergent adults as they navigate identity, self-acceptance, burnout, relationships, and a world that isn’t always built with them in mind.
My path to becoming a psychotherapist began while I was a labour, birth, and postpartum doula. While walking alongside families during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period I witnessed both the incredible beauty and the immense vulnerability of becoming a parent. I saw firsthand how isolating, overwhelming, and emotionally demanding this chapter of life can be, and I knew I wanted to support parents beyond the physical aspects of care. That passion led me into the mental health field, where I transitioned to working in addictions and community mental health. These experiences deepened my understanding of trauma, resilience, attachment, and the many ways our early experiences shape how we move through the world.
My professional work has also been shaped by my own family-building journey. I have experienced miscarriage, a high-risk pregnancy, time in the NICU, and the heartbreaking loss of my one week old son, Loxley. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the complexities of reproductive health, pregnancy, birth, infertility, pregnancy and infant loss, and early parenthood.
While no two journeys are ever the same, I understand how joy and grief, hope and fear, love and loss can coexist. Whether you’re exploring a new identity, processing trauma, navigating fertility or pregnancy, grieving a loss, adjusting to parenthood, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life’s demands, my hope is to offer a space where you don’t have to mask, perform, or hold everything together alone. I strive to create a therapeutic relationship rooted in authenticity, curiosity, compassion, and genuine connection - where every part of your story is welcome. I believe that there is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy.
Every person comes to therapy with their own story, strengths, and needs, so I integrate approaches from several evidence-based modalities (PPMP, IFS, CBT, DBT, MI, and expressive and art-based therapies) as appropriate for each client. Together, we’ll find an approach that feels the most meaningful, authentic, and beneficial for you. It is my honour to walk alongside my clients as they bravely navigate deeply personal and vulnerable experiences. I look forward to working with you.
